I’m Kyle Doerksen. I was a student at Stanford University. I wrote at the time that "Good weather year-round, great people, renowned programs and the most exceptional college marching band anywhere were enough to make me leave the home country to spend four (five? six?? :) fun filled years in sunny California." Well here's year six and I'm still in Palo Alto. I pursued an undergraduate degree in Neuroengineering (an individually designed major) and an MS in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating in June 2005 I started at IDEO, a product design firm headquartered in Palo Alto.

While I spent the first 18 years of my life in Calgary (Western Canada High School class of 2000, baby!), when December rolls around I have no doubt that coming to a more temperate climate was a wise decision. No snow for Christmas, eh! For more on my distant and not-so-distant past, check my Dad’s homepage. Be forewarned, though, he's been known to brag.

When I’m not studying (which is a much larger fraction of my time than conventional wisdom would suggest), I’ve been known to play around with ultimate Frisbee and volleyball, daydream, watch Second Reality, stare off into space, and listen to an eclectic mix of tunes including Hybrid, downbeat, Dispatch, and CBC Radio 2.

I also can’t seem to get the entrepreneurial spirit out of my system. I co-founded and ran Perpetual New Media from 1996-2000. More recently, I co-founded Kymatix Research Inc., to develop advanced subsurface object detection technologies, 3-d visualization, etc, etc. Check it out!
